316 (1.4401) Stainless Steel

316 stainless steel is a really common stainless steel grade and it is one of the most widely used stainless steel grade around the world. This grade is written as 1.4401 or X5CrNiMo17-12-2 according to EN norm and it is written as UNS S31600 according to UNS norm. 316 material is the general name of 316 and 316L grades and in these days, all 316 grades are produced with lower carbon content so the producers produce 316 grade as 316/316L grade, which confirms both 316 and 316L grade. 1.4401 stainless steel is the second popular stainless steel grade and if 304 grade is not enough, then the first choise could be 316 (1.4401). Compared with 304, 1.4401 grade material has more nickel content. Also molibdenium and nickel elements in 316 grade makes this grade more resistant to corrosion.
